2014 is officially done and with the calendars rolling over to 2015, it means that W-2s and tax information are going to be incredibly important in the coming weeks and months. People will be putting together their tax filings and shipping them off to the Internal Revenue Service or, better still, using electronic filings to get their tax information off to the IRS.
However, every tax season there is always the risk that your filing catches the eye of the IRS. You may have made a mistake that you didn’t catch or realize, or maybe the complicated tax rules and processes led to you providing some incorrect information or incorrect documentation. In any case, the IRS may pounce on your filing and use their power to try to leverage money out of you.
Don’t just roll over for the IRS at the first sign of trouble. They may make strong demands of you and you may think that you have to give in, or you may even think that you have few (if any) rights in this situation. However, you don’t have to just give in to the IRS, and you do have rights in these situations.
At Allen Barron, we relish the opportunity to stick up for the little guy — in this situation, the taxpayer. We will fight for your side of the story and stand up to the IRS to protect you and your rights if any audits, liens or other tax action is filed against you.
