If You Owe the IRS More than $50k You’re About to Lose Your Passport

If you owe the IRS more than $50k you are about to lose your passport.  The US Congress passed legislation in December requiring the IRS to provide a list to the US State Department of all US taxpayers who owe the IRS $50,000 or more.  If you owe the IRS more than $50k you should contact the IRS tax attorneys at Allen Barron immediately.  We represent US taxpayers before the IRS and California’s tax agencies.  We will work to reach a successful resolution of your case with the IRS through a variety of strategies.  Allen Barron’s aggressive team can help you to keep your passport and come into compliance with the IRS.

The legislation calls for the IRS to identify any US taxpayer who owes $50,000, including penalties and interest.  The law enables the US State Department to immediately revoke those passports and refuse to issue a new passport to anyone on the active IRS list.  The IRS confirmed recently that it was commencing the process of identifying those taxpayers and sending certification to the State Department.  The IRS is also sending the notice of certification, IRS letter 508C to US taxpayers who fall into the “seriously delinquent” category established by Congress.  The IRS expects the State Department to begin revocation within 90 days.

If you owe the IRS more than $50k including penalties and interest this may be your last opportunity to keep your passport.  We invite you to contact Allen Barron immediately for a free consultation at 866-631-3470.  Learn about our unique strategy regarding IRS collections, and the work we can do to preserve your passport while working out a resolution in your case.  Ask about the protections of the attorney-client privilege which allows us to discuss all aspects of your case under one of the oldest and strongest protections provided in US law.  Inter-agency cooperation and coordination is making it more difficult for US taxpayers.  Trust Allen Barron to protect your interests, resolve tax issues with the IRS and California tax agencies and preserve your freedom to travel.
