MGA Entertainment Brings $1 Billion Trade Secret Lawsuit Against Mattel
Recently, MGA Entertainment filed a $1 billion trade secret lawsuit against Mattel. MGA’s lawsuit claims that Mattel toy company spied on its rival at toy shows. The companies are fighting over the ownership of the Bratz line of dolls. MGA Entertainment recently received a favorable decision on a motion to dismiss the lawsuit. Commenting on the decision, Chief Executive Officer of MGA Entertainment said “Large, publicly traded companies are not above the law. Mattel, for years, has blatantly stolen trade secrets from MGA Entertainment and other toy companies.”
The trademark lawsuit between MGA and Mattel follows another dispute between the companies. In 2011, a jury awarded MGA $85 million in damages based on evidence that Mattel engaged in corporate espionage. MGA further claimed that “Mattel bullied retailers into keeping Bratz dolls off their shelves.”
