IRS Scam Phone Calls Increase Significantly

A quick tip on the IRS – they will not call you out of the blue demanding immediate payment of a tax debt unless you have already been through several months or years of action directly with the IRS, such as an IRS audit, or a collections action.

When the IRS intends to seize your assets – known as a levy – or to place a garnishment against your wages they must notify you by certified mail.  They will not throw you in jail for any tax debt, and without due process.  Threats such as “pay up immediately or we will put you in jail” or “you will be hauled before a magistrate” or any such nonsense are exactly that: nonsense.

The IRS moves methodically.  If you have been contacted by the IRS for any reason you should not communicate directly with them.  If you have received a letter of notification or any demand for payment from the IRS we invite you to contact us for a free consultation at 866-631-3470.  If you receive a phone call, politely ask them to send you correspondence, but do not provide any information about yourself such as an address or social security number.  If it’s really the IRS, they already know this information.
